"...'I don't want to make any sort of prediction,' Steinberg said. ' I just know this:

that successfully solving the budget deficit will go a long way toward resolving

the issues related to state employees, will begin resolving a number of the

issues relating to construction and private-sector employment.' ..."

                        - Comments by Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg,

in a Sacramento Bee story, February 11, 2009, on pending

budget deal between Liberals in the California Legislature

and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger that would nearly

double the car tax, increase sales taxes by more than 10%,

and put California's personal income tax rate at the highest

                          in the nation.

To All,

If only Robert DeNiro really was a freedom fighter like Tuttle....

In other news:

Budget Wars: Pig-In-A-Poke Alert-

Courtesy of the folks at TMZ.com and Connie Hair at HumanEvents.com, voters are getting only a partial "look" at the Obama Stimulate Patronage Act of 2009 prior to a 9:00 AM EST vote in the House today.

Aside from $ 30 million dollars for harvest mouse habitat restoration in the San Francisco Bay area (Prices are going up-the Feds budgeted $ 40 million for a 14 year national program for California Condor restoration back in 1996) and a proposed plan to put everyone's medical records on the Internet so that AARP insurance adjusters can figure out how to deny coverage to their members, not a lot is known about the bill.

In fact, it may just be that the lobbyists-cum-fertility specialists of DC's K street firms may be the only personnel with any complete knowledge of what the public will be in for after enactment. Given longstanding guidelines prohibiting lobbyists from pushing for programs that will lead to increased chances of political miscarriage, or even the premature termination of political careers, it's hard to explain their sudden desire to have more patronage programs than ever considered before. Suffice it to say that the taxpayers are about to be stuck with the Mother of All Bills. Stay tuned.

Condor Pasa Update- The Good....

-Video of NRA State Liaison Ed Worely putting the

California Fish & Game Commission on notice

that gun owners and hunters are keen on wanting

to have input on any political process that could

              disarm them through ammunition bans.

...The Bad....

                - CA Fish & Game Commissioner Michael

Sutton trying to "agendize" regulations that

would call for a statewide ban of traditional

ammunition before real data was presented

in a complete public review process (Now

why would he want to "jump the gun" like

                  that?).

Note to Commissioner Sutton- Clay pipes used by the Puritans were apparently made of kaolin clay, which largely consists of aluminum silicate. Perhaps it would be in the interest of science to see his source material (raw data?) to support his statement that Puritans smoked with lead pipes?

...And The Ugly:

                - Pamela Flick, representing Defenders of

Wildlife, lobbying for a statewide ban of

                  traditional ammunition in a "proactive"

manner, including the "ratting out" of

state employees who may have a difference

                  of scientific opinion about purported

                  threats of traditional ammunition.

Death By 20,000 Regulations:

Rebecca Kimitch writes at the San Gabriel Valley Tribune about the closure of Gregg Industries in El Monte.

Gregg Industries was a 60 year fixture in El Monte, an iron foundry and machine shop that provided critical subcomponents to such heavy machinery producers as Caterpillar.

Increased costs due to regulatory requirements, including a $ 14.7 million hit over air quality regulations, appear to have contributed to the company's demise and the apparent loss of over 234 manufacturing jobs. While only a small story in the regulatory-inspired deconstruction of the US manufacturing base, it is nonetheless a critical one when one considers how environmental regulations can go too far in the disarmament of the US economy. Rest in peace.
